When it comes to nail products, ingredient safety is more than just a trend — it’s a standard. One of the ingredients nail techs are paying attention to today is TPO (Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide).
TPO has been restricted in parts of Europe due to safety concerns, which is why more and more professionals prefer to work with TPO-free gels. Using products that keep up with modern regulations helps protect both you and your clients, while giving peace of mind during every service.
What Does “TPO-Free” Mean?
TPO is a photoinitiator that helps gels cure under UV/LED lamps. However, research and regulations in some countries have raised concerns about its long-term safety.
TPO-free gels cure just as effectively but without relying on this ingredient, making them a smarter and safer option for modern nail salons.

TPO vs. BAPO: What’s the Difference?
When it comes to gel polish safety, many professionals ask about TPO (Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide)and BAPO (Bis-Trimethylbenzoyl Phenylphosphine Oxide). The names may look similar, but these are two completely different ingredients.
TPO is a photoinitiator that has been banned in the European Union because of safety concerns. This means brands can no longer include TPO in gel formulas sold in Europe.
BAPO, on the other hand, is a different type of photoinitiator. While it shares part of the chemical family name, its structure and properties are not the same as TPO. Importantly, BAPO is not banned in the EU, and it is legally allowed in professional gel products.
✅ To sum up:
-
TPO = restricted in the EU
-
BAPO = allowed and commonly used in gels
This distinction is important to understand so that professionals and clients feel confident about the products they use.
✨ At F.O.X Nails USA, we believe nail products should be innovative, safe, and professional. That’s why our range is almost entirely TPO-free — giving you the confidence to work without compromise.
